Requests for CIHS services are received from a variety of sources such as: a school for the deaf, Ministries of Health and Education, a service club. Our initial response may require a visit to the country to determine the extent of help needed and to outline the responsibilities of both CIHS and the country, should it be decided that we can assist them.

The board of CIHS reviews the report of the visit and determines the extent of help we can provide. Relevant contacts in the country requesting CIHS help are then advised of the Board's deliberations. The terms of any CIHS involvement are then confirmed.

Developing nations wishing to improve their hearing health care have many services available from CIHS:

• Training local personnel in the evaluation of hearing loss
• Providing free hearing aids to needy persons who could benefit from amplification
• Providing in-service programs in current techniques and technology for local health and education personnel who work with the hearing impaired public
• Providing instruction in the making of earmolds for hearing aids, fitting the hearing aids, counselling and follow-up
• Providing seminars in medical assessment and management of ear-disease and hearing loss
• Providing guidance in establishing effective hearing conservation programs in the workplace
