Training Programs

The following is a general description of training programs offered by
Canadian International Hearing Services

Workshop In Basic Hearing Loss Identification

Duration: 1 week
Who Should Attend: Health Care Workers
Expected Outcomes:
  • Understanding of how we hear
  • Able to operate a screening audiometer
  • Able to carry out a hearing screening program and make appropriate referrals

Workshop for Teachers of the Deaf

Duration: 1 to 2 weeks
Who Should Attend: Teachers currently working in Schools for the Deaf
Expected Outcomes:
  • Better understanding of deafness
  • Understand the various techniques for teaching deaf children
  • Have a basic understanding of hearing aids and technical devices used in speech development

Seminars for Teachers and Health Care Workers

Duration: 3 - 6 hours
Who Should Attend:
  • Teachers from the regular schools
  • Health care workers who meet with the public
Expected Outcomes:
  • Understanding of hearing impairment
  • Understanding of techniques for dealing with people with a hearing loss

Basic Audiology Course

Duration: 3 to 4 months in Canada
Who Should Attend:

People who have successfully completed the correspondence course of the American Hearing Society. The Course consists of 28 assignments and usually takes about 6 to 8 months of part-time studies to complete.

Expected Outcomes:
  • Qualified to test hearing using advanced testing equipment
  • Able to Counsel people with hearing impairment
  • Select and fit hearing aids most suitable to a hearing loss
  • Make earmold impressions
  • Consult on hearing conservation
